We are Celebrating 50 Years in the Business!
1. Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is always a sound choice for exterior glass features. It's not only made up of multiple layers of glass for extra thickness but also features a tough layer of plastic film between the layers. The layers of glass are fused to this tough plastic film, meaning that breakage is much more difficult.
This construction offers the benefit of holding the glass pieces in place in case the window accidentally breaks, rather than strewing sharp shards around your shop. And if the glass accidentally breaks during a storm, the laminated construction can help it stay in place and protect your facility from the intrusion of rain and debris.
However, the main security benefit is that any would-be intruder may need several minutes of hard work to get through this type of window, so your facility is less likely to fall victim to crimes of opportunity.
Although even this strong, reinforced type of glass can't provide absolute protection against thieves (especially if they have the right tools), it can either deter the criminal or hold the criminals up for several precious minutes so that security or police officers can more easily apprehend them.
2. Tempered Glass
Like laminated glass, tempered glass can help reduce the chances that someone will be injured by a broken window. This type of glass is created using a quick-cooling process that gives it a different texture than traditional glass panes.
Two benefits make tempered glass a great choice for exterior surfaces in your business: its resilience and what happens when it breaks. Because it's a tough, harder-to-shatter type of glass, tempered glass is a great product for outside surfaces that take a lot of wind.
And because it doesn't break into super-sharp shards like other types of glass (instead its broken pieces tend to have more rounded, pebble-like outlines), it's less of a hazard to your customers.
3. Privacy Glass
In many cases, security may not be the primary reason for installing privacy glass. It also offers energy-efficiency benefits, helps your clients feel more comfortable at your office or facility, and solves glare and heat gain problems for sunny windows.
However, limiting the visibility into your facility from outside can also be a security feature. This is especially the case if you work in an industry where competitors might want to know about your ideas or processes, or if the media might try to get a scoop on your operations. Privacy glass can help you keep your facility secure against these prying eyes and cameras.
4. Glass With Security Coatings
When shopping for security coatings, you'll want to consider anti-vandalism, anti-breakage, and privacy coatings. Anti-vandalism coatings are sacrificial in nature; that is, they're a layer of plastic that shields the glass from the brunt of etching or painting. Anti-breakage coatings are similar to laminated glass; both can hold shards together and help prevent intrusion.
Privacy coatings are similar in effect to privacy glass and come in many textures. Glass coatings install easily once the glass is already in place so you can combine this type of product with any of the others on the list. For example, you could install tempered glass for its wind resistance, then add a security or anti-vandalism coating.
